Homosassa Spring 3

A prominent first‑magnitude spring vent within the Homosassa Springs Group, discharging directly into the Homosassa River within Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. Spring 2 is one of three large cavern-connected head vents that collectively deliver over 100 cfs (approx. 4.6 M gallons/day), supporting crystal-clear, emerald-blue water and abundant aquatic life including manatees. It lies within public park boundaries and is publicly accessible by land and by paddling. Clarity near the vent is exceptional, with visibility often exceeding 30 ft before river mixing reduces clarity downstream. The Homosassa Springs Group includes almost 30 springs and discharges 65 million gallons of water per day making it one of the largest springs in the state. The main vent flows from three points underground which each have a different salt content and water quality. Known as a winter haven for Manatees, the late Lu the Hippo and other animals. For the best water clarity, visit during stable water conditions when water heights are around 5 feet or lower.
