Gum Spring Main

Located at the headwaters of Gum Slough, one of the larger springs in the river basin. Clear groundwater rises from a broad vent area and forms a defined pool before feeding a winding, spring-fed channel through hardwood and wetland forest toward the river. The pool and run are moderately deep and calm, making it attractive for paddlers, though on-land access is mostly through undeveloped conservation land in the Half Moon Wildlife Management Area. Look for stable water conditions below 28 feet for a good chance at clarity.
