Its crystal-clear, cool groundwater bubbles up through sandy conduits before flowing into a tidal, spring-fed river system that supports manatees, bald eagles, and diverse aquatic habitats. Spring clarity peaks when the river stage aligns with the lower ends of the tidal cycle, indicating that spring flow is dominating and surface-water mixing is minimal. Based on typical tidal ranges at this gauge, clarity is generally best when the gage sits near 0.8–1.2 ft, especially during low tide and dry-season conditions.
