One of over twenty springs in the Wacissa Springs Group, forming the headwaters of the river. This first-magnitude spring cluster, set in a natural, rural setting within the Aucilla Wildlife Management Area, offers a serene spot for kayaking, canoeing, and swimming, surrounded by dense forest and cypress trees. Public access is available via Jefferson County's Wacissa Springs Park, which features a boat ramp and parking lot. The spring run is fast-flowing, with occasional algae and hydrilla, and clarity can vary widely and can be vivid in dry periods but tannic after heavy rain. For the best experience, visit on weekdays or early mornings to avoid crowds, especially in spring or fall. Water levels seem to generally stay between 30 feet to 31.5 feet. Look for the lower end and stable conditions for best clarity.
