Baltzell Spring is a striking spring group known for its crystal-clear, 68-degree water and a combined flow of about 100 million gallons per day. Nestled upstream of the Florida Caverns State Park, its distinct vents—range from shallow pools to a deep river spring—offer vibrant underwater foliage and prime spots for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking. Accessible by water only, launch from the park’s boat ramp off SR 166 and paddle 1 mile upstream. Summer weekends draw paddlers and locals—arrive early to avoid crowds. For calm, visit weekdays in spring (April-May) or fall (September-October), mornings best. Surrounded by private property marked with no trespassing signs. Check out all three. Water clarity is typically vivid but can cloud with tannic river water after rain. Look for low stable water levels below 6 feet for the best opportunity at clarity.
