A stunning natural spring known for its crystal-clear, 68-degree water and a large basin with depths up to 25 feet (and a small opening reaching 75 feet). Surrounded by cypress trees, pine forests, and a sandy beach, it’s perfect for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and diving. Access is via water only due to private property; launch from Cotton Landing or Culpepper Landing on Holmes Creek and paddle a short distance (about 0.25 miles from Cotton Landing or 0.75 miles upstream from Culpepper). It gets busy during spring and summer, especially on weekends, with crowds of locals swimming. For a quieter visit, go on weekdays, ideally mid-week, and avoid peak months like July and August. Early mornings or late afternoons in spring (April-May) or fall (September-October) offer the best conditions with fewer people and pleasant weather. Jet Skis are prohibited on Holmes Creek. County Ord. 97-12 **Update May 2026: The boardwalk area is now open and access to the portajohns is also available. Water clarity can be impacted by many factors such as upstream rainfall and water releases causing a tannic, dark-colored or "Brown Out" condition. Water tends to become clear when the Holmes Creek Water level is at or below approximately 13.8 feet.
