Vortex Spring is vibrant and renowned for its crystal-clear, 68-degree water and a flow of about 28 million gallons per day. Surrounded by pine forests and grassy lawns, its 50-foot-wide basin, up to 50 feet deep with a cave system below, offers a premier spot for swimming, snorkeling, and diving, camping, and lodging and is managed as a private dive resort. Accessible via Vortex Spring Road (no boat needed), the park charges fees. Summer weekends and holidays like July Fourth pack the dive sites—arrive early. For quieter visits, try weekdays in spring (April-May) or fall (September-October), mornings best. Food is primarily limited to snacks at the dive shop. Water clarity is typically exceptional but can cloud slightly after heavy rain. Check —stable, low levels below 6 feet usually ensure clarity.
