Deer Spring, the smallest at Ginnie Springs, is a tranquil spring loved for its crystal-clear, 72-degree water and a minimal flow, part of the park’s collective 80+ million gallons daily. Its shallow, 5-foot-deep basin, tucked among cypress trees and hardwoods, is best for swimming and wading, with a brief run to the Santa Fe River. Reachable via a short path from the park’s core, it’s a hidden gem that stays quiet even during peak summer—perfect for a relaxed visit. Try weekdays in spring (April-May) or fall (September-October) for a near-private dip in its calm waters. Alcohol only at campsites. Some areas may not be accessible to visitors with disabilities. Give them a call before you visit for the lastest accommodations. Water clarity is superb but sensitive to Santa Fe River rises after rain. Low, stable river levels promise the clearest views.
